Dad's Birthday

It's your birthday, Dad.
My thoughts are here with you.
Since you've been gone,
We've had so much to do,
But on this day I stop,
Each and every year,
With memories bittersweet,
And distant times so near.

Chorus:

Dad, I know you'd be so proud,
If only you could see us now.
We worked hard, we grew,
Learned so much of it from you.
Can you see us clear?
If I call out will you hear?

The kids are fine, children growing.
Some now live away.
It's hard to keep in touch
When spread across the USA.
We've settled all the differences
We had when we were young.
Through good and bad we're closer now,
Remembering where we're from.

Chorus

I know you'd like to know
Mom still lives along.
Days pass without much plan.
Most old friends are gone.
Your love of all life's music
Has stayed since we're apart,
So I sing the songs that speak
Thoughts within my heart.

Chorus

It's your birthday, Dad.
My thoughts are here with you.
